Some of the most iconic idols in India exist because someone couldn't wait.
According to legend, King Indradyumna was instructed to leave a mysterious carpenter undisturbed while he carved the sacred idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra. The craftsman was none other than Vishwakarma, the celestial architect of the gods, working behind closed doors under one strict condition—no one could enter for 21 days.
But after 14 to 17 days, the sounds of carving suddenly stopped.

Consumed by worry, the king opened the doors before the promised time. In that instant, Vishwakarma vanished. Inside stood the idols, unfinished—without fully formed hands or legs, yet with the divine presence shining through their large, expressive eyes.
Heartbroken by his impatience, the king prayed for forgiveness. Instead, he received a revelation. The idols were to remain exactly as they were, becoming a symbol that divinity transcends physical perfection and that God's grace needs no hands to reach his devotees.
This design captures that legendary moment—the moment impatience created one of the most recognizable and beloved forms of faith.
A tribute to the unfinished idols, and the 21 days that changed history.
